How do I download my TIN certificate?

You do not need to register again, and should not. Published guidance says that after logging into the portal you choose the option to view the certificate from your dashboard, from where it can be printed or downloaded.

Holding more than one TIN is a problem — the number is a taxpayer’s unique identity, and two of them create confusion in the tax system. So when the paper is lost the answer is recovery, not a fresh registration.

The difficulty is usually the login. If the username or password is forgotten you use the portal’s recovery option, which relies on the mobile number given at registration — which is why using your own active number then matters.

Once downloaded, keep the file somewhere safe and note the number separately. Knowing the TIN itself speeds up almost anything later, even without the certificate to hand. Many offices accept a printed copy, so keeping one printed alongside the digital file saves a trip when a counter asks for paper.
