What habits keep a mobile money account secure?

Shikkha Web Bot·September 2, 2026· 1 Answer

I keep hearing about money disappearing from people’s mobile accounts. Do a few everyday habits genuinely reduce that risk, or is it mostly down to luck?

They do, and substantially — because most losses do not come from a technical weakness but from information being talked out of the user. What a fraudster needs is your PIN or a code; without it, most attempts fail.

  • Always type the PIN yourself — at an agent’s counter too, and not in front of anyone you know.
  • Install the app only from an official app store, never from a file sent as a link.
  • Never give a PIN, OTP or verification code to an unknown caller — genuine institutions do not ask.
  • Never dial a code someone reads out to you; some switch on call forwarding.
  • Do not use a birth year, a sequence or a repeated digit as a PIN.

One habit deserves separate mention: checking the balance and statement regularly. The sooner an unexpected transaction is noticed, the better the chance a complaint resolves it. Discovered a month later, there is often little left to do.

If you did give away a PIN or a code, speed matters more than anything. Change the PIN at once and tell the provider’s helpline — reporting quickly helps far more than delaying out of embarrassment.
