Why do dogs get stuck together during mating/intercourse?

We are all familiar with this scene. Many of us treat animal sex as a big joke. When we come across street dogs in this situation, some of us throw stones or shoo them away with noise. Some of us, overly enthusiastic, even hit them with bamboo sticks or rods.

Let's try to understand this a little. Just like us humans, "sex" is a basic trait for animals too. First of all, it doesn't really suit anyone to mock the very 'system' through which they themselves were born.

.~So why do they get stuck?

Mating in dogs mainly happens in two or three stages, the second of which is the 'getting stuck' stage. When a male dog ejaculates semen, the 'bulbus glandis' of his genitals becomes quite firm, and at the same time the female dog's vaginal muscles also contract. As a result, the male dog cannot pull his genitals out of the female's genitals until both sets of muscles relax. During this time, some fluid is released from the male dog's genitals which pushes his sperm inside even faster..This can last anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes.

So what happens when you force them to run in this state, or hit their genitals with something

Yes, even though the muscles sometimes relax quickly, in most cases the muscle tears, and in some cases the female dog loses her reproductive capacity. Sometimes it even causes the male dog to lose kidney function, along with other complications.

They are not doing you any harm, just as you have no right to harm them either. It's fine that you're collecting love-reacts on social media day and night with pictures of puppies — if you can, do something good for them too. And if you don't, that's fine as well, but please don't harm them.
