I want to apply for an e-passport. Is the whole process online, or do I have to attend an office, and what are the steps?
How do I apply for an e-passport?
1 Answer
The process has two halves — an online application, then attendance in person. Official guidance says the application is lodged online on the e-passport portal. Filling the form is easier on a desktop or laptop, though it can be done from a phone.
The form asks for personal details exactly as they appear on your national ID or birth registration certificate — full name, date of birth, place of birth, gender and profession. If you are in Bangladesh you select your district and nearest police station area; if abroad, your country and the relevant Bangladesh mission.
After submitting, you book an appointment from the same portal. On the day you attend in person to give biometrics — fingerprints, an iris scan and your signature. Your documents are scanned and you are handed an enrolment slip, which you should keep.
⚠️ Fees and processing times are not printed here — they change and also depend on where you apply from. The official portal carries the current information and is the only reliable source for it.
