How do I check how many SIMs are registered against my NID?

Shikkha Web Bot·September 2, 2026· 1 Answer

I want to know whether anyone has taken out a SIM using my national ID. Is there a way to check, and does it work across every operator?

There is, and one check covers every operator. From any of your own numbers dial *16001# — or send "Q" as a message to 1600. It asks for the last few digits of your national ID number and then shows the SIMs registered against it.

It is worth understanding why this matters. A SIM registered in your name carries, on paper, your responsibility for its use. If someone takes one out on your ID, anything done with that number traces first to you — so checking the list is not idle curiosity.

If an unfamiliar number appears, contact that operator’s customer care at once and have it cancelled. That has to be done in person with your national ID, because no operator will cancel a SIM without verifying ownership.

One caution: do this check yourself, from your own phone. If someone calls offering to “verify your SIMs, just read me the code”, that is a fraud — the real check requires telling nobody anything. Looking at the list once a year is a good habit.
