What do I do if my name is misspelled on my NID?

It can be corrected, and the application is filed from your own online account. But it helps to understand the logic first: the authority does not accept that a spelling is wrong simply because you say so — you have to show that the correct spelling already appears in other records.

That is why the evidence asked for is usually older, independent documents — educational certificates, a birth registration certificate, a passport or similar, showing the correct spelling. The older and the more independent the source, the stronger the claim.

After submission the application goes for verification and approval can take time. You can track its status from the account, so there is no need to keep visiting an office. Which categories of correction attract which fee is set out in the portal’s own fees section — take the figure from there.

One argument for not delaying: while the mismatch stands, every new record carries the wrong spelling forward — bank accounts, SIM registrations, employment files. Correcting it later means changing all of those too, and by then the job is much larger.
