I sent money to the wrong number in a hurry. What should I do now, and is it a good idea to call that number and ask?

The first step is to tell the provider’s customer service as quickly as possible. Speed matters here: reporting before the recipient withdraws the money makes a resolution far more likely, and once it has been cashed out the situation becomes much harder.

Have the transaction ID, the date and time, the amount and the number it went to ready when you report. Do not delete the confirmation message — it is your primary evidence and you will need it if the complaint has to be escalated.

Calling the number yourself is usually a bad idea. First, it tells a stranger who you are and what has happened, which can be turned against you. Second, the provider has a process, and an arrangement made outside it leaves no record. If anyone says they will return the money but first need a code, that is certainly a fraud.

If the provider does not resolve it, there is a route onward — Bangladesh Bank publishes separate guidelines for customer service and complaint management, and because the sector is regulated that step is real. Keep a note of the date and the reference number of every contact.
